Dungeon & Dragons Online Goes Free! |
|
Jun 09, 2009 - 1:20 PM - by Raina
|
The Eberron Unlimited upgrade for Dungeons and Dragons Online is coming this summer, bringing new quests, a new class, a cash store, and a higher level cap, all while introducing a new free-to-play business model.
The gates to Eberron will swing wide this summer, as the Eberron Unlimited upgrade transforms Turbine's DDO from a subscription-based massively multiplayer online game to a free-to-play one, relying on VIP subscriptions and the new DDO store as dual sources of income. Free players will be able to join the game, create characters, and level all the way up to 20, the new, logical class limit for a Dungeons and Dragons game. Limitations included having to pay for specific races and classes, limited chat, auction, and mail capabilities, and access restricted to the city of Stormreach and its immediate vicinity.
Paying a monthly fee for VIP status grants you unlimited access to all of these features, as well as full customer support, with free players... [Read More]

The Matrix Online: All Good Things Must End |
|
May 29, 2009 - 12:51 PM - by Raina
|
In May 2004, I embarked upon a journey. I decided to take the red pill in a big way—I became the online community lead for The Matrix Online. Later that year, many of you joined me as you jacked in for the first time. It was a brand new world—a vision of online games that didn’t involve elves, spaceships, or dragons. We became part of the Matrix storyline; living our own adventures in the world painted by the movies.
It seems not so long ago I was jumping into Mara Central and going toe-to-toe with other devs at E3 2004. I had no idea this journey would take me to a whole different company, managing a major revision of the game, and my first producing gig. “Long, strange trip” doesn’t describe the half of it.
Now we’ve seen how far the rabbit hole goes and it’s time to wake up from that dream (or go back to sleep, depending how you look at it). On July 31, 2009, we will be jacking out for the last time. It’s a bittersweet moment for... [Read More]

City Of Heroes Goes Rogue, Gets All-New Expansion |
|
May 12, 2009 - 2:23 PM - by Raina
|

City of Heroes is going to get only its second expansion - and first in four years - with the release of Going Rogue, an update for the game that introduces the world of Praetoria. Praetoria takes the well-worn comic book road of flipping an established universe on its head, presenting "a utopian mirror to our own world", in which the same characters exist, just in...different ways.
Aside from a new playing area, this expansion will introduce not only a new alignment system - "that explores the shades of gray that lie between Heroes and Villains" - but taking advantage of the whole parallel universe thing, will also allow for the first time hero characters to become villains in the new world, and vice... BioWare is giving players a whole new old way to experience Dragon Age: Origins, announcing a pen and paper role-playing game based in the Dragon Age universe. Following in the footsteps of games like EverQuest and Street Fighter, Dragon Age is making the leap from video game to pen and paper role-playing game. Green Ronin Publishing, the company behind the 2nd edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Thieves' World, Mutants and Masterminds, and Freeport, will be in charge of transferring the world of the PC game into the minds of people sitting around a table eating snacks.

New Fallout Announced |
|
Apr 21, 2009 - 8:00 PM - by Raina
|
The new game was revealed by Bethesda's Pete Hines who said that the publisher is working with Obsidian Entertainment on the title.
It will be coming out next year for the PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
"It is not a sequel to Fallout 3," Hines said. "It's simply another Fallout game in that universe."
It will be the same sort of role-playing game experience seen in Fallout 3, he said. The game's official reveal, with more details and a look at the game down the line.
Hines added that this title will have no impact on what Todd Howard and his team are working on.
Obsidian Entertainment is the development studio that rose from the ashes of Black Isle Studios, responsible for developing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Neverwinter Nights 2, Alpha Protocol, and Sega's... [Read More]
